Now, I'm not a huge country fan by definition, but Johnny Cash? Willie Nelson? Hank Williams Sr.? Oh God yes. Hank III and The Damn Band are what we call neo-traditionalist country. Which means they're attempting to make country like it used to be- songs about drinking, smoking, cussing, and fighting. Real country music is a tradition, and modern country has destroyed this proud tradition with songs like this. (Oh, it pains me to link this.)
My ex-girlfriend actually owned this album.
Hank III's music isn't simply confined to country, though. He's also in a punk/metalcore band called Assjack, and he's in a little metal band you might have heard of called Superjoint Ritual. He's doing what he wants, when he wants, and it really doesn't matter to him if anyone else likes it. So, here's my favorite Hank III song, for your delectation.
I had no idea there was a 3rd hank. I think my dad might actually like this too. I also had heard of superjoint, Phil from Pantera is in that too right?
ReplyDeleteYeah, Phil is in Superjoint Ritual, too.
ReplyDeleteHe is very reminiscent of his grandfather, from his features to his voice. His edgy style is cool with the young crowds. I played some for some old timers, but they refused to listen. Oh well, we know who rocks.
ReplyDeleteHaha wow I had no idea a Hank III even existed. Im going to look into his music now! Nice blog btw. Following
ReplyDeleteevery time i say how much i HATE country music, some country-fan says..."but...what about ol' Hank?"
ReplyDeleteI understand your position and I respect your choices, but country-style gives me headache. I don't like it.
However...I DO like your blog
I'll agree, new country is WAY worse then old country
