The Alpocalypse is Upon Us!

Let me tell you a story, a story of when I was a wee lad. On my tenth birthday my parents bought a stereo, with a CD player! I had never had a CD player before, and so my parents bought me a CD to go with it. What CD you may ask? A CD that would delight any child of ten.

And oh, the listens that CD had. It's been lost to the sands of time (and divorce, and relocation, and further relocation, and college) but that CD left a lasting impression on me- a lasting love of one very strange accordion playing man with a nasally voice and a talent for mockery the likes of which will never be seen again. That man was "Weird" Al Yankovic. Even if he's old now.

Of course, I have believed my whole life that everyone loves Weird Al. Everyone.

And so, Mr. Zombie has already told you all you need to know. Al's newest album, Alpocalypse, is fantastic. The parodies that Weird Al puts out- with impeccable finesse and style- never cease to amaze me.

I believe my favorite track on the album is Craigslist, a style parody of The Doors with Ray Manzarek himself on keyboards. Weird Al's dedication to the craft in his style parodies is apparent with the amount of work that he obviously puts into this songs- especially considering he and his band transcribe the music by ear and then replay it themselves.

I also like TMZ where Al pokes fun at something that I have never understood- America's fascination with the lives of celebrities. Who really cares whether or not Miley Cyrus (also parodied on this album, see what I did there?) smoked salvia or weed or crunch berries on her 18th birthday? I don't.

So, if you're into Weird Al check out Alpocalypse. If you're not... you're an idiot.

  1. I know what you mean, I too have some tracks that when I listen to memories come back, good memories

  2. Ah the memories this ensues. I haven't heard a Weird Al song in such a long time, it really is time for an overdue trip down memory lane. Thanks for posting this, I think you've touched the inner child in all of us.

  3. Weird Al will go on forever. He never stops at surprising me.

  4. Weird Al is the man! And as for Rob Zombie..his music rocks but he def tried to keep people from fishing near his property.

  5. I love Weird Al! really amazing some of his stuff!
    +Followed :)

  6. Didn't know he was still around, I haven't heard anything since Eat It.
