It's not the end of the world but you can see it from here.

With the looming apocalypse, and all...

So, we all know there are people saying that the world is going to end or that everything is going to change come  12-21-2012. We know it's not, but there are still people in hysterics about it. Bah! Anyway, I plan to spend the eve of the apocalypse sitting on the highest point I can reach, I'm going to crack open a cold one and watch the sun come up, just to see if I sears the flesh from my body. I plan to listen to the entirety of this album-

Then this song...

Then this one...

Why do this if I don't believe the world is ending? Because I embrace the idea. I believe that if enough people believe that the world is going to change irrevocably it might just do it. Not because of the Mayan calendar cycle but because in the hearts and minds of man we know something has to change. We can no longer afford, as a species, to separate ourselves the way we have. The reason I believe this is because of pictures like these.

This is from a Gay Pride parade in Chicago. The men who are fully clothed are from a religious organization and they are holding signs that say things like "I'm sorry for how the church has treated you." And with the embrace those men shared walls came down, even if it was only for them. This picture gave me hope for humanity for the first time in years.

This photograph is from Nigeria, and it's Christians standing guard while Muslims pray. I believe that we're approaching a point where man is going to realize that...

I'm not naive enough to believe this is all going to happen at once, or even in my life time, but I have hope. I see a light at the end of the tunnel. We need to let love and compassion guide our lives.

God bless you, readers. Whether you believe in God or not is irrelevant. Please don't get offended by that phrase, because it is a universal expression of good will and love. Replace "God" with whatever deity(ies) you might believe or not believe in, replace it with "The Universe" if you will. We're all children of the same universe and I hope one day all men will realize that.

  1. those images, very positive/uplifting stuff. Makes me almost agree with you. If things do get better for our civilization...it won't be for a while, and well after our lifetimes.

  2. Embracing the pseudo-apocalypse bravely with a beer in hand, I think I might join you wherever I happen to be that day, good sir.

  3. Wonderful. I have similar views! I'll be celebrating 'the end of the world' another way, but it's with a similar mindset. I believe things will be changing.

  4. Thank you for the blessing. I'd be a willing participant in connecting thoughts, heart and mind, with others to transcend this existence. Great post!

  6. Heh, I can see that I'm quite a bit more cynical than you. I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel, just a long, spiraling fall.

Still, good to see some folks still have hope fer the future.

  7. God bless you as well then. ;)

May we see the dawning of a new era come December of this year, one filled with more hope than times past.

As for me, you know I'm going to be throwing one kick ass 'last' birthday party for myself or doing something crazy the night before December 21st. :p
