Holy Cow

It's been a long time since my last post. I've been dragged down so far by school I think I'm drowning. At any rate. Dat Iz Voodoo by Orange Sky.... how about that?

A million thanks go out to D4 for this suggestion.

At first I didn't know what to think of this album. The reggae groove combined with the heavy metal instruments and the rock/reggae vocals kind of confused me. Yet... I liked it. I didn't know why, I don't even know how long it took me to figure out that I like them, but I do. The whole time I listened to this album I felt an idea of what they sound like forming in my head. Something I could relate them to.

Then it hit me, like a club over the head of my music... fan... ness. They sound like a metal band composed completely of trolls from World of Warcraft.

Like this, but with more cowbell.
(I can't believe I made that joke, either.)
(And I spent 5 minutes cropping that screenshot you had better appreciate it.)

They're actually quite similar to another band I can think of, but I don't like, strangely enough. The band is called Skindred and... no. Do not want. No me gusta. Can't play with it, can't win with it.
I just picked a random Skindred video, they all fucking sound like that.

I first heard of Skindred when I was in high school and I found one of their CDs on the top row of bleachers in the gym. I listened to it, threw it in a drawer, and never saw it again.

Be sure to go check out D4's blog. He's a hell of a guy who consistently manages to update his music blog with interesting content, which is usually much more accessible and "normal" than what I post here.

OH! And they interviewed me at Zombies Everywhere, where they previously featured my Misfits tattoo. I make some offensive comments about Christian films!

If I said anything dumb in this post... this post is brought to you by nine mg of melatonin and 50 mg of Diphenhydramine HCl.  (Those are both legal sleep aids, one natural, one chemical. And I'm still up at 2:48 in the damn morning.)

  2. You know, they really do sound like that. I'd never thought of it that way, I just figured it sounded like Jamaicans influenced by Black Sabbath, even though they're not Jamaicans and I have no idea who influenced them.

As far as Skindred, their newest album actually varies a bit. That was their first single, I covered it an really grew tired over time but the rest of the album is very.. different. There's a flat out reggae track on it, it even has a hint of industrial in it. Weird album, but a better listen than their older stuff.

Thanks for the mention and kind words! Really didn't have to. I'm just glad you liked the music.

  3. To sleep, turn off the computer. Hard I know, you could also try Flux, which changes the colour tempreture of your monitor depending on time of day.

  5. They're the style of music I like. I'll probably check out more of their stuff.

Don't hear the trolls part there too much though. :)
But I don't really know, how WoW Trolls sound. I know, how they sound in W2 and W3 and this doesn't seem to resemble that.. to me at least.
